Family Time and Money

Mid February Hello

We're Back on line and back to work here at FamilyTimeandMoney.com.  I never actually stopped working, I've just been busy traveling to several MOPS and Moms' groups.  What a great time!  I love to be out and about, mentoring families.  One of the best parts of traveling is hearing about what families are needing as far as ideas and encouragement.

Most recently, I accepted the opportunity to become the "Frugal Living Editor" at 247Moms.com.  I have been writing for them and producing content for just about one year.  I've learned a lot, and am ready to take on more assignments -- and learning adventures.  The Internet allows us as writers and website producers such an opportunity to reach families -- wherever they are.  Awesome!

247Moms is the leading web show and has received the most view/visitors since we began the webcasts nearly one year ago.  Tuesday nights have become an eagerly anticipated "Girls Night Out" for many, many moms throughout the country.   Many moms who join us each week feel as though they've made many friends -- and we look forward to connecting each week.

We've covered a wide variety of topics:  Better Breakfasts, Holiday Ideas, Crafting Demonstrations, Hair Styling Events, "Get Organized" Inspiration, Back to School Giveaways... the list goes on.  The 247Moms Team, including myself, met last month.  We designed 6 months worth of potential content ideas and events.  Great things are yet to come!  Join us!

I continue to blog for the Whidbey News Times, "Making Ends Meet".  WhidbeyNewsTimes.com is reporting a huge increase in their online traffic.  They provide the best of local news updates, and I present all sorts of locally-focused and family-oriented information.

February, I hope will be my catch-up month.  I said the other day that "I'm starting my New Year's Resolutions in February" -- and given the daily family life I live, that's true.  I always work toward progress, not perfection.  I love my life, a mix of family, creative opportunities, more writing, and my travels to Moms' groups -- wow!

I Looking forward to posting more -- I will post a weekly blog update here -- more frequent updates will be posted at "Making Ends Meet".

Send your email to info@familytimeandmoney.com to receive a monthly "Howdy and How-To's - And More".  You never know what you'll save in money or time -- give it a try.

Living a Fuller Life, at Half the Price,

Amy

Our Annual, Fun to Make Gift - "New Year's Eve Pop-Its"

I found this Family Gift/Fun Craft Idea in the Book "501 Fun to Make Family Crafts", which is listed under Family Time and Money's Book List.  We've done them a few Christmases over the past six years.  My husband's family lives on the East Coast.  These gifts are perfect for sending with the Christmas Card and Letter -- and the kids love to make them.

New Years Eve Pop-Its (Or Crackers, as they're called in the book):

Celebrate the new year with pop-open party favors that are full of surprises.

What You'll Need:
Paper towel tubes
Scissors; Ruler,
Wrapping paper; tape
Curling ribbon
Small, wrapped candies

How to Make Them:
1.  Make sure the paper towel tube is clean inside and out.
Cut tubes to measure approximately 6 inches long; then cut each tube in half.

2.  Cut a piece of wrapping paper that is 11x6 inches.  Center pieces of tube side by side on paper, leaving a 1-inch space between the tubes.  Wrap paper around the tubes and secure with tape.

3.  Tie one end of the paper with curling ribbon.  Fill the tube through the open end with candy.  Tie the remaining end shut.
Use scissors to curl the ends of the ribbon.

4.  Have guests (or recipients) break tubes in half to find goodies inside.

Creative Note:  We fill these with stickers, folded paper messages, small toys, and anything else that we find can fit in the tubes.  I make a special set of these for my family, each with surprise ingredients and special messages in them.

Back To School Fun Times and Memories.....

We've been doing last-minute shopping this past week.  Found some great deals and we've got a full closet of school supplies for the week.

Payless Shoe's BOGO-Half Price is over, but Office Max's $5/$25 coupons for Payless Shoes are still available when you spend .01 or more.  Payless Shoes receipts have "Survey Coupons" worth $2 off anything (after you call in survey).  Also, there are coupons printed for saving money there during the month of September.  They've still got some great things on clearance as they make the transition from summer to fall.

No grocery ads in today's mail, so another post will follow with what's hot in the grocery stores this week.  I'm looking for someone who shops grocery outlets, costco/sams or other similar place for groceries.  What has been your experiences there?

I'm beginning a "promotion" contest here...  When you help get the word out about FamilyTimeandMoney.com, you'll be entered into a drawing for a "Time and Money Saving" gift pack.  Tell your friends, and have them reply to info@familytimeandmoney.com to let us know who referred them (that would be you).    Drawing at the end of September.

The other contest we're starting is a "I Saved" or "What Works For Me" short-tell submissions.  Every story you send will give you one more entry into September's contest.  We'd love to get some ideas flowing and posting here, so tell us what you've been up to.

For those local to Oak Harbor, I'm starting up my "FamilyTimeandMoney" Home workshops.  You've been to Stampin' Up, Pampered Chef and others -- "Family Time and Money"'s home parties will encourage and inspire you -- to  save time and money.  The first two home workshop parties hosted will receive special door prize gifts for their guests, and one for the host.  Parties of 6 or more.  This includes inviting Family Time and Money to your playgroup, church, Moms group, etc.  You supply the location, perhaps the hot beverages, the guests -- and everything else is brought to you.  Amy's Loft is available, for those of you who need a location.  Please send inquiries to info@familytimeandmoney.com.

247moms.com:  We enjoyed two shows tonight of chattin, family ideas and great giveaways.  Next week, plan to join us 7PM and 9PM, PST.  You can join their daily email subscription and watch previous webcasts at 247moms.com  Each day in your email, you'll enjoy a few short notes on all things mom, family, and more!

Have a great day.  I'm off to sleep, to prepare for my "baby's" first day of Kindergarten!

Send us those savings stories, time saving tips, favorite websites and we're looking for a few new recipes too!
